But don’t just take our word for it
'TB' had some care experience when she joined Cherish Care. During her interview she was particularly impressed by the company’s ethos and passion for care. It made her more keen to get the job and she hasn’t looked back. 'TB' says: “Every day is different. I feel valued and I’ve been able to develop my career. When I first applied for the job, I thought my carer days were over – that was eight years ago.”
A more recent recruit, 'SM', has felt welcome from the very beginning. “I am working with a wonderfully supportive team. It’s like being part of a family providing great care to the community. Knowing we make a difference to people’s lives, even if it something small, is so satisfying.”
Do you have what it takes to become a Personal Carer with Cherish Care?
Previous experience isn’t always necessary. We look for people who have the right attitude, share our values and belief that care means treating clients with dignity.
So what personal qualities do we look for?
You will be making a difference to someone’s life, likely to become a trusted friend and a vital part of their existence. Put yourself in the shoes of someone struggling with illness or coming to terms with not being as physically fit as they once were – what sort of person would you want by your side?
A calm nature, patience, resourcefulness and empathy are essential, along with a genuine desire to help people. Above all else you will need to be committed to treating people with dignity, respect and compassion. And, as a Personal Carer, you must be responsible and adaptable – your clients will depend on you and look to you for support if circumstances suddenly change.
On a practical level, you must have your own car, a valid driving licence and appropriate business insurance in place.
If you’re successful at interview stage, we will request references and you will need to go through appropriate police checks via the Disclosure and Barring Service to ensure that there is nothing to prevent you from working with vulnerable adults.
